Choose the job before choosing the cheaper filter

A kitchen filter should solve a defined problem. If the goal is taste, say that. If you have a laboratory result, ask which exact treatment claim applies. Do not compare two systems as equivalent simply because both connect under a sink.

This shortlist is deliberately small. Both products serve the existing-faucet decision, but their documentation and consumables differ. A longer list would not help if it mixed dedicated-faucet systems into a no-new-hole search.

Aquasana AQ-MF-1: consider it when the documented claims fit

Aquasana lists AQ-MF-1 as a cold-line, existing-faucet system. Its published specifications give a 3-inch width, 20-inch height and 1.5 gpm rated service flow. The manufacturer links a performance data sheet for the specific certified reduction claims.

Our take: investigate this option when that documentation matches your need and you can accommodate the housing and servicing space. The taller form matters in a crowded cupboard. Draw the available space, including the drain and disposal, before accepting “fits under the sink” as an answer.

Waterdrop WD-10UA: check the exact version and the flow discrepancy

The Waterdrop UA family connects to the original faucet. The current page lists the 10UA dimensions as 3.9 × 3.6 × 12.3 inches and identifies NSF/ANSI 42 and 372. Those labels alone do not establish the same treatment claims as the Aquasana model.

There is a material documentation conflict: the product specification lists 0.75 GPM while its FAQ gives 2.0 gpm at 60 psi. We cannot resolve that from the page, so we do not name a flow-rate winner. Ask Waterdrop for the current rated figure and the performance sheet for the exact version being shipped.

The five checks that decide whether either fits

Send the seller or installer the model you are considering and your existing setup. You need a compatibility answer, not reassurance that installation is quick. A renter should settle permission before purchase; a removable fitting is still a change to the plumbing.

Who should skip this shortlist?

Skip both if the treatment objective is still unknown, the required claim is not supported, the connections are unsuitable, or you have no permission for the work. Also pause if the seller cannot explain an inconsistent specification. A discount is not a reason to accept uncertainty that matters to your home.

If you want a separate drinking-water tap, or have already established a need for a different treatment type, this is not the right final shortlist. Return to the treatment-location decision rather than forcing one of these products into a job it was not selected for.

Our verdict: make the comparison on evidence and upkeep

The AQ-MF-1 is the option to investigate first when its documented claims are the reason for your purchase and the larger housing is acceptable. WD-10UA remains a candidate for an existing-faucet setup, but we would resolve its flow documentation before committing. Neither earns a universal “best” label from this research.

Before paying, save the exact model, the performance document and the replacement part number. If those three items are missing from the quote, ask for them. They will matter long after the opening discount is forgotten.
