HyLine Side Faucet vs Under-Counter Faucet: Which Install Is Better?

Both faucets come in matte black, chrome and brushed nickel. The side faucet costs $99.95 and keeps the ionizer beside the sink. The under-counter faucet costs $249.95 and is designed to let the machine and optional prefilters sit below the counter.

The $150 product-price difference is not the full difference. The under-counter route can add drilling, fittings and professional labor. The side faucet uses counter space but may avoid a more involved cabinet project.

When the side faucet is the better buy

The side faucet is a dedicated small spout beside the main kitchen faucet. HyLine says the ionizer hose slips over it, creating a straightforward feed while the machine remains within reach. This avoids attaching a diverter to the main faucet and can suit pull-down faucets that do not accept the normal adapter.

It still needs a water supply and a suitable mounting location. Confirm the hole, countertop surface and shutoff arrangement; “simple connection” does not mean every sink already has what it needs.

When the under-counter faucet earns its premium

Choose the under-counter route when counter space and appearance matter enough to justify more work. The product page recommends professional installation. Plan cabinet space for the machine, optional prefilters, tubing and filter changes.

A hidden machine is not automatically easier to own. Controls, filter status and service access may be less convenient. Ask how the machine is operated in the proposed arrangement and request a drawing of the final layout.

When you need neither accessory

The Hybrid H2 installation guide already provides routes for a dedicated drinking-water faucet, standard removable-aerator faucet and universal adapter. If one of those works cleanly, a separate $99.95 or $249.95 faucet may add cost without solving a problem.

The under-counter faucet product page mentions a one-year warranty, while HyLine’s general warranty page says many accessories and support products have six months of limited coverage. Ask which current written term governs the exact faucet and save the answer.

Also confirm whether professional installation is required for warranty protection and which damage from drilling, leaks or improper fit is excluded.

Final checklist

Select the layout before the finish. A matching faucet that creates an awkward tubing path is not a successful upgrade.

The side faucet is not the same as a faucet diverter

The side faucet creates a dedicated small water outlet next to the main kitchen faucet. The ionizer inlet hose slips over its spout. This can avoid attaching a bulky diverter to the main faucet, but the machine remains on the counter and still uses its own flexible output spout.

Confirm whether the side faucet is installed through an existing hole or needs a new one, what valve feeds it and whether the hose connection stays secure during daily use. The product image alone does not answer those plumbing questions.

Plan control access in an under-counter setup

The under-counter product page focuses on the dedicated faucet and clean appearance. Before hiding the Hybrid H2, ask how the user selects water type, sees the display and runs cleaning. A layout that hides required controls may not work the way the photograph suggests.

Request an installation diagram for the exact Hybrid H2 model and faucet. The installer should not improvise a configuration that conflicts with machine ventilation, drain routing or warranty terms.

Finish choice comes after function

Matte black, chrome and brushed nickel help match the kitchen, but finish does not resolve compatibility. Compare the finish with the main faucet in normal daylight and ask how the surface should be cleaned. Abrasive cleaners can damage decorative coatings.

If the current faucet finish is difficult to match, a deliberate contrast can look better than a near match. This is a design preference, not a performance reason to choose the more expensive installation.

Calculate the real price gap

The product-price gap is $150. Add a plumber, drilling, new shutoff, tubing and cabinet work to the under-counter route; add any hole and feed-valve work to the side faucet. Only then compare totals.

A renovation can make the under-counter route easier because holes and services are already being planned. In an existing stone counter, the lower-cost side faucet can still require specialist drilling, so neither price should be treated as installed.
